Due to her father's illicit activities, which her mother took great pains to hide from her, Ara grew up extremely sheltered -- to the point of almost total isolation. This caused her to withdraw into herself, sensing the discord in her home but not wanting to add to her beloved mother's stress or draw the dubious attention of her quick-tempered, cold father. She learned about the world through the books her father brought her, and so the library quickly became her favorite spot, a place where she could tune out her hellish family situation with its uneasy façade of peace.

She learned of her Healing power at a very young age, and, despite being untrained other than what she learned through books, managed to become proficient in it. It has always bothered her that she'd reached over one hundred without [[Archangel|earning a single wing]].

Ara is the penultimate lover of knowledge. She's cool-headed -- even under duress -- choosing to be pragmatic and see the logical perspective over the emotional. Contrasting that, she's empathetic almost to a fault, and oddly vain and self-deprecating at times. She doesn't see her own achievements or skills as being anything particularly special; both because there are people better than her and because she's keenly aware of her own failures and shortcomings. Her empathy can cause her to be reckless and impulsive at times, especially if it is to help others. Despite this, she's not a pushover by any means. She's quick-witted and sensitive to the emotions of others, which makes her both a wonderful caregiver and a terrifying force to anyone who believes they can take advantage of her kindness. Her horns are faceted iridescent; a nubby central horn in the middle of her forehead and two horns reminiscent of thick tree branches arcing close to her head on either side of the central horn.

She tends to dress very conservatively; not out of embarrassment of people seeing her body or some misplaced sense of what is 'proper,' but just because she's more comfortable that way.

Chani was born in the [[Ages|Second Age]] to Gerald Abyssterilon (one of [[JohnAbyssterilon|John Abyssterilon's]] sons) and Helena of Station 41. She grew into a precocious, too-smart, always-getting-into-trouble kid who took after both her mother and John, to literally everyone's dismay. Her favorite pasttimes were tearing things apart to see what they did and inventing things with scraps, and she was insatiably curious, though oddly cold. She never smiled.

John adored her. He was always smiling around her, so that was the image she had of him: jovial and indulging. Only later did she find out that he was, in reality, a terminally serious man. When he disappeared, she was still only a child, but he’d answered enough of her incessant questions for her to get his wisdom directly from him, which she held close to her heart when she decided to become a Ranger officially. It was said back then that he and Damien had turned traitor, abandoned the Rangers for unknown reasons, which quickly spiraled into rumors that took on their own lives. This hardened young Private Abyssterilon, who became angry and threw herself body and soul into the work her grandfather had left undone, desperate to find anything that would exonerate him of the stains on his name. For a while, that meant taking on any and all combat missions she could. She rocketed up the ranks and racked up combat experience, during which time her clinical and brutal nature gave her the callsign Reaper.

After far too long of that she became disillusioned: no matter how many combat missions she completed, no matter how many times she killed, no matter how many high-ranking evil people were taken out or lines broken or facilities destroyed, it was like trying to sweep back the ocean with a broom. Eventually she started putting some of her grandfather’s cryptic advice into context: that the people were what mattered, that the system was her ultimate enemy. To that end, her attitude shifted drastically when she became a Sergeant: she became more hardened and resolute, though she hid it behind her patented calculatedly easy smile.

During the [[ElysianConflict|Elysian Conflict]] in the early [[Ages|Sixth Age]], she was gravely injured and almost killed, and only by replacing over half of her body with cybernetics was her life saved. She has a strong moral compass and a strong conception of justice, but outside of the bounds of those personal ideologies, she is very 'the ends justify the means.'

Her hobbies include tinkering with things (usually things that really shouldn't be messed with) and all forms of engineering/inventing. She loves all things [[dwarf]] and her choice destination for a vacation is a dwarven colony planet. She has a particular penchant for ancient hominin aviation, and has a whole warehouse of scavenged old flying machines from across various hominin worlds. == History ==
Redd is a [[Hominin|human]] from [[JewelCity|Jewel City]], [[FederatedEarth|Federated (or Chaos) Earth]], who was raised in isolation. She began to manifest psionic powers (hearing the minds of those around her, moving things without touching them, changing objects into other objects) around puberty, which prompted her parents to begin intensive psychiatric care to gaslight her into thinking that her powers weren't real. As time went on and the treatments didn't 'cure' her, more and more extreme treatments were employed (injections, medications that made her sick and had addictive properties, electro-shock therapy without anesthetic or pain-reducers).

At sixteen, Redd, on the brink of madness, escapes and ends up on [[Assisi]]. This begins the events of [[Everdark]].

== Personality ==
Redd's natural personality (as of the events of [[Everdark]]) has been subsumed by coping mechanisms from her PTSD. She's paranoid, easily agitated, and leans on dark humor to cope with the effects of her mental illness. To those who earn her trust, she deeply craves affection and reassurance and will return it in kind, oftentimes to an extreme that puts her own needs on the backburner. Some aspects that seem natural to her are sarcasm, curiosity/eagerness to learn new things, and stubbornness.

She likes food (it's a distracting stimuli that keeps her thoughts at bay), physical affection, and dislikes sleeping (due to nightmares) and crowds (due to overstimulation from her untrained psionic abilities).

Redd is described in [[Everdark]] as a young woman with medium-toned skin and bright crimson hair, which is wavy and thick and swept back from her forehead, falling to just below her shoulders. She has piercing, upturned, metallic golden eyes, and is generally what would be considered conventionally attractive, with a straight nose, shapely jaw, and full lips. She is slim, lightly muscular, with an hourglass figure that borders somewhat on pear-shaped. She tends towards wearing black clothing.

Redd is mostly a brawler who fights with her fists and feet, which she imbues with psionic power for extra kinetic oomph. She's fast, and can 'jump', which is like short-distance teleportation. From a protected position, she can cast her mind out in a wide net and pinpoint the locations of everything in the area, manipulating things within a certain distance, though it's draining and she has to shut off all external senses to do so. She can tear into both objects and minds.

Sixteen year old [[Redd]] is a runaway with psionic powers and PTSD.

While escaping the parents who experimented on her, Redd unwittingly opens a portal to a planet populated by the last remnant of the angelic species. Trouble follows. With nowhere else to go, she is caught up in an intergalactic conflict: the militant, space-faring [[Rangers]] and their allies must prevent the fortress [[EverdarkPlace|Everdark]], the [[Angel|angels]]' last bastion, from being overrun by evil forces.

The abuse Redd survived takes its toll in the form of nightmares, mood swings, and paranoia — but there is comfort in combat, so she joins the front line. There, she discovers that she can wield terrible power at the behest of a mysterious entity residing somewhere within her, though the transaction is not in her favor. Clinging to an often nebulous connection to shared reality, she becomes inextricably involved with more than just the battle to protect the angels.

The events of Everdark are the key to a mechanism that, with Redd and her companions as integral gears, will start a countdown. And at zero … a shift in the core of the metacosm, one written into its very code before Time began.

The Chronicles are the stories written from the Metacosm. The Chronicles take a sapient-centered view of the Metacosm’s structured foundation, one that often pulls directly from [[N.A. Soleil]]'s life experiences but is also heavy on imagination and abstract.

As of July 2023, the primary Chronicle is [[Everdark]].

[[N.A. Soleil]] has also been writing a serial for [http://Tumbleweird.org Tumbleweird] since early 2019, following the [[Golden Paladin]]'s journey on [[Archaic Earth]].

Current plans are for one mainline Chronicle to be released each year.
